The Christian Science Church is a Christian denomination based on Christ Jesus' teachings and practice of healing as taught in the Bible. The first Tenet in Christian Science is "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 497.
Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was a lifelong student of the Bible. In 1866, a life-threatening injury compelled her to turn wholeheartedly to God. She opened her Bible to an account of Jesus healing a man quickly and completely. This new sense of God as the only reality flooded her thoughts, and she was healed spontaneously. She yearned to know how and why. During the next several years of study, she discovered that Christ Jesus taught his disciples a method of healing based on laws that can be applied and proved today. She explained her discovery in her first book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. This book, along with the Bible, is used in each Christian Science service. Everyone can use these books to better understand their relationship to God. Each healing inspires a heartfelt desire to help others know and experience how loved we all are by God.
The First Church of Christ, Scientist (the Mother Church), was established in Boston, Massachusetts in 1892.
